Fyre Festival 2 Update 1

*Updated 26th March, 2025

I wrote recently about how Fyre Festival is making a comeback – And how that comeback is already off to a terrible start!

Lacking permits, no acts booked and an organiser who seems to be a micromanager when the big picture isn’t even in place yet.

Well, I checked the Fyre instagram account on the 26th March.

On there, I found several interesting things about the festival to report on.

(By the way, I see this being one of many Fyre 2 updates, so stay tuned…)

So let’s start with a big thing from the original post:

Billy’s Video

Previously on the Instagram account, there was a long video from the organiser, Billy McFarland, ranting about people not believing him and the media being against him.

Well that video is now gone. It has been removed from the Instagram page with no follow up.

Maybe Billy saw sense and realised that him being the face of this festival was a bad idea.

Or maybe he deleted it himself because he has no impulse control.

Who can say?

Instead of the removed video, the Fyre account has instead got four new posts.

So let’s get into them.

Fyre 2 Merch

The newest of these posts states that merch is now available for the festival!

As one commenter pointed out: they haven’t released a line-up yet!

Who’s buying merch for a festival that they aren’t sure they want to go to?!

Well don’t worry, because Fyre 2 merch doesn’t need anything silly like bands!

Most festivals would go for a classic design: t-shirts and hoodies with the logo on the front and the line-up on the back.

Fyre has instead gone the meme-route and is selling t-shirts and hoodies with the phrase ‘Fyre Festival 2 Is Real’ emblazoned on them.

It seems like they’re making that their slogan?

But I definitely haven’t seen many people using it as a meme, so using it on merch seems ambitious…

Or, it seems like they really didn’t have anything to put on it, so why not that random sentence?

So yes, that bad news is that the merch is crap.

The good news? There’s tons of it.

Yes, the merch page is absolutely packed with stuff: t-shirts, hats, bags beach towels! At the time of writing there were 33 items for sale!

Who the hell is spending $80 on a beach towel with the Fyre Festival logo on it?

In the original blog post, I referred to the target demographic of fire Festival being rich idiots, and that is my answer here too.

Now, speaking or something mentioned in the first blog post…

Fyre 2 Coordinates

Fyre 2 was to take place on Isla Mujeres. The website even included coordinates to that specific location (sort of)

Well those coordinates have now changed!

The new coordinates, as seen on the merch post, are: 20°38’07.0”N 87°03’30.8”W

Where do these new coordinates point to:

5th Avenue in New York. Specifically just outside Madison Square Park.

Is that where the festival is now being held?

No!

Because another post on the instagram explains that the festival has moved.

Well no, the post simply says Playa Is On Fyre (Which means nothing out of context)

I had to do some research to find what this was even talking about.

The post is referencing the fact that it’s now moved to Playa Del Carmen, a city in Mexico.

Moving the festival to an entirely different place not two months before the festival is set to happen is certainly a choice.

(And I have no idea why the instagram and website show coordinates pointing to New York!)

But hey, you can do that when the festival is fictitious and isn’t going to happen anyway. (Note: that is entirely the opinion of the writer. And thousands of other people)

Oh, since we’re talking updates, let’s discuss the website.

Fyre 2 Website

This may just be my experience with the website, but it now seems to be loading up even slower than before, and is very sluggish when trying to move between pages.

Screenshot of Fyre 2 website showing the loading screen when the page first loads

It’s frankly impressive to make a website this unresponsive in 2025.

Especially a website with as little content as this one!

So, what has been added to the website since my original blog post?

Host Adventure

This section of the website invites you to apply to host an experience at the festival!

I don’t know about you, but that seems like a rather unprofessional thing for such a (theoretically) huge festival.

You’d think they would approach people independently, rather than put out an open call for anyone with ‘expertise, presence and audience’ to apply.

Oh, and to be doing this less than two months before the festival happens is as inept as putting out merch for a festival before any artists have been announced.

Oh, wait…

The best part of this section is when they refer to it as an ‘exclusive, application-only opportunity’

If you’re asking people to apply, then it isn’t exclusive! ‘Exclusive’ would mean approaching people specifically!

Updated FAQ

The FAQ has been updated for the website too, offering much more explanations and clarity to the situation.

By which I mean, more guff encouraging users to buy tickets.

  • How do I get tickets?
  • Can I upgrade my tickets?
  • Can I get a refund on my ticket?
  • What if tickets sell out?
    • (This one got a genuinely laugh from me! I don’t think ANYONE is concerned the festival will sell out)

They have at least explained which hotels they’ve partnered with, so hooray for that, I guess?

There’s still nothing about what acts will be performing, what the layout will be, times of anything, what food will be available, anything like that. That must be coming soon…

Wrap up

So, with all these updates and changes, what does it mean for the festival?

I have no idea.

All I know is that Fyre Festival 2 isn’t finished being the worst-managed event since, well, since Fyre festival.

This story certainly isn’t finished, so I’ll update again when there’s new things to report.

Find out what happened (It was cancelled, obviously) here.
